This is an example of a late war MG42 gunners pouch. These were made from about 1943 onward, with the later ones being made from the typical tan canvas with the red stripe sewn into the fabric, as this one has. They are found without the red stripe as well- depending on where in the roll of material it was cut from. This particular one has a spuriously marked closure strap- the marking reads clg45. Some say that these markings were added post-war by European dealers, but some feel they are original. Either way, the pouches are definitely original. Most have post-war markings on them as well.
